Don't just learn about AI. Build it.
Hi, I'm Xichao, an Electronic and Information Engineering student. This summer I interned at Unitree Robotics, whose humanoids are making waves online and in research labs. I also represented Unitree at the World Humanoid Robot Games and World Robot Conference.
Imperial has incredible AI talent, but too many students lack the guidance, teammates or compute to turn ideas into projects. I want I-X AI Labs to change that, for beginners and experienced builders alike.
If elected, I will:
1. Build project teams. Small, mentored teams will meet at regular build nights and showcase finished work at termly demo days.
2. Fight for compute. I'll pursue GPU access through I-X and departments, seek industry cloud credits, and teach efficient model training.
3. Make AI accessible. From beginner Python sessions to advanced workshops on fine-tuning, AI agents and coding tools.
4. Prioritise real results. Teach rigorous testing and honest evaluation, not just flashy demos.
5. Open doors. Connect members with researchers, industry speakers, internships and Imperial's startup community.
Why me? At Unitree, my team collected robot training data in simulation and the real world and worked on robot policies. I built a data-quality evaluation system whose compact model outperformed one nearly 30 times larger.
I'd love to bring hands-on physical AI projects to Labs alongside other AI work, and explore access to real robots through Unitree, Imperial and sponsors.
Don't just watch the future of AI. Build it.
