Maya Telang

Hi everyone! My name is Maya and I’m applying for the position of Energy Idea Challenge Officer! With energy contributing to over 70% of all gas emissions globally, as a Year 2 Chem Engg student, I’ve always been keen to find new ideas that can drive a more sustainable energy future.

I’m excited to be able to run an event/s that can bring together a whole community of students interested in tackling sustainability or power related real-world challenges. In the past, events such as the Energy Idea Challenge have been truly successful in not only fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration but also driving innovation and I would love to help make it even bigger and better this year.

I would also like to make these events more accessible by holding introductory workshops to encourage idea generation, pitching and making a business case. Alongside, to get multiple disciplines involved, I will promote the event across various departments and societies, to create diverse teams with different perspectives.

Finally, strengthening links with industry and alumni will be one of my key goals, to open up opportunities for collaborations, sponsorships and mentorships for our students.

With my previous experience in organizing a career fair at school and running two clubs, I believe my organizational skills, ability to manage timelines, coordinate with industry professionals and effectively build teams will certainly help us deliver a high-impact event.
