Sailing: Development Officer

Who I am
For the past three years, I have worked as a sailing and powerboat instructor across London. During this time, I’ve built a strong network of contacts with clubs and centres across the city, which I want to use to create more opportunities for Imperial Sailing. Having also raced on the squad, I understand that there is not enough casual sailing opportunities, and I'd like to change that.

My Plan

1. Sail beyond QM
For the Last 3 years we have been based fully out of Queen Mary Reservoir. It is possibly one of the best spaces in London to sail, but a round trip over 2 hours long has been a major hinderance to our social sailing development. I’ve already organised a partnership with Westminster Boating Base in Pimlico; it’s only 15 minutes away, meaning we can now even sail on Wednesdays after uni without the travel faff.

2. Two social sails every term
I will organise two social sails per term with the committee. These will be aimed at new members, those looking to develop their skills, or experienced sailors just wanting a relax. These will typically run on Wednesdays or Sundays.

3. Connect us with clubs across London
I’ll use my existing contacts to get Imperial through the door at clubs city-wide, giving us more variety of opportunities for our social sails.

4. Better, and more Courses
I’ll expand our repertoire beyond just social sails, organising opportunities for Adult Sailing Levels and Powerboat certifications for anyone who wants them.
