Sophie Brand
I'm a third-year medical student who is passionate about publicity and making PsychSoc's social media become a space where students can discover and engage with Pyschiatry. Having already been involved in lots of PsychSoc initiatives, I know what the society does, what students enjoy and what I think we could do to make our publicity stand out.
My interest began in my school's psychology society, where I designed a magazine that collected articles written by students for the general public. I was involved in advertising and collating artistic contributions from other students that aligned with the topics of the articles. I learned important skills such as managing multiple stakeholders and creative design - both of which will aid me in this role.
As publicity officer, I'd love to make a greater use of our social media. A few ideas include:
- Psych in 60 Seconds: short, accessible posts explaining a day in the life as a psychiatrist.
- Celebrate Important Dates: incorporating current trends and awareness campaigns, such as Movember, into our posts.
- Getting Into Research: regular posts highlighting open research/internship opportunities.
- Psychstart Mentorship/OpenMinds Programme Spotlight: discussing speakers and successful student collaborations.
- More visually engaging content to promote initiatives and upcoming conferences.
With a strong passion for increasing engagement and the attention span of the average medical student, I am confident that I have the creativity to create a feed worth stalking late at night while doomscrolling.
