Rita Awad

Biochemistry (UG): Year Three Wellbeing Representative

Hi everyone! I'm Rita Awad, a 3rd year Biochem student running for the Biochem Wellbeing Rep position.

As we start our final year, we find ourselves facing some of our biggest decisions yet, alongside the usual academic pressures of lectures, deadlines and coursework! With so much to think about, it can be easy to put our wellbeing second. I am here to assure you that we are all in this together, and that wellbeing matters just as much as academic success!

My goal is to help create an environment where everyone feels heard, supported and connected so that no one feels they have to manage stressful times alone.

My priorities are:

  1. Making our voices heard: Creating opportunities for everyone to share their concerns and suggestions through anonymous surveys, ensuring this reaches the relevant university teams so that issues can be addressed as early as possible.

  2. Building a stronger community: Encouraging informal social events and opportunities to connect and share experiences/advice.

  3. Prioritising wellbeing: Guiding students to find available mental health and wellbeing resources, making it easier for everyone to access the right support when they need it.

I am an approachable person who hopes to listen, advocate for our year group and help make our final year one in which we can thrive both academically and personally! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out at rsa124@ic.ac.uk
