My name is Colin Chan, and I am a first year medical student here at Imperial. It's only been a few weeks, but I can already tell that this course isn't going to get any easier.
We all know the stress of skipping one day of Anki and finding ourselves with hundreds of cards to catch up on the next day, while developing severe Impostor Syndrome hearing your peers discuss complex biochemical topics like its nothing.
However, doing a notoriously challenging course does not mean you have to handle it alone. Imperial has amazing Welfare Staff at your disposal, with many student-prioritised systems to help us get through these 6 years. I am applying for this role to strengthen the communication between students and staff members to ensure that vulnerable students get the help they need.
To be honest, this is my first time joining a school-led election in my life, so I may have less experience in that regard compared to our other wonderful candidates. However, I was a school prefect in secondary school back home in Hong Kong, as well as a volunteer with mentally impaired adults during my time at Sixth Form. By voting me, you'll elect a strong communicator and listener, someone who craves the thrill of solving challenging problems. A majority of students may not interact with the Welfare Team too often, but if you do, I'll ensure that your voices are heard and support you through every step of the way.
