Parmis Azadegan
Hi! I’m Parmis and I’m applying to be our wellbeing representative this year!
I know that new beginnings are challenging, having found the transition to my secondary school very difficult, which is why I would strive for everyone to feel that they belong in our community.
As chair of human rights society at my previous school, I demonstrated my advocacy for equality at a global scale, and at Imperial this would manifest in a commitment to inclusion and honouring the diversity at ICSM. For example, I would propose that (for FPR) we also offer scrubs designed for women: through speaking to the other girls, I understood that they too were upset about the ‘’unisex’’ scrubs (which seemed to just be men’s scrubs), and as women in medicine we deserve to feel that we belong in the field.
I would work with the Deputy Welfare to provide support to our cohort as we navigate the financial and academic pressures studying medicine can impose upon us. I would request for the counsellors to address our year termly to discuss mental health and share healthy coping mechanisms and support available. Additionally, I’d suggest frequent walk-in sessions with the welfare team for raising issues or ideas in a safe environment!
I would also encourage joining creative and sport societies: ICSM is a welcoming community with a spectacular range of societies, and creative rest and staying active are essential for both our health and the quality of our time at Imperial!
Thank you for reading!
