Biological Sciences (UG): Year One Wellbeing Representative

Looking for someone trustworthy, reliable and approachable?

I’m Ashley Yunshu Lu, a first-year Biological Sciences student. As an international student, I know all too well the discomfort and stress of being new to an environment—something many of us may experience.

Why choose me as your Wellbeing Representative?

First and foremost, I genuinely care about student wellbeing. I have volunteered at mental health festivals, supported schoolmates experiencing burnout, and organised my high school prom in a five-person team, just for creating a memorable night for 110 students.

I also bring a strong sense of responsibility and organisational skills. Through conversations with classmates and reading our group chats, I have identified three recurring concerns that may affect our wellbeing: group work, poorly organised support information, and unclear course instructions. It’s frustrating when group members don’t turn up or disagreements arise during discussions. It’s frustrating when you have a question but don’t know which department to email. And it’s frustrating when you find it so hard to keep track of which assignments are due.

I will systematically collect and summarise your feedback, raise it with our Department Representative, and escalate concerns to the Deputy President (Welfare) where needed. I will also track responses and follow up to help ensure that problems are resolved or mitigated. Additionally, I would work with Academic Rep to raise concerns that affect both studies and wellbeing.

Vote for Ashley—someone who would value the opportunity to hear from across our cohort and make a real difference to our community.
