Nayantara Vijay
Hi! I’m Nayantara, and I’d love to be your academic representative to amplify each of your voices and build a seamless bridge between students and staff.
As an international student from Botswana, I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed with new information. Over the last few weeks, I’ve also learnt that this is so much easier when someone is there to support you, listen to you, and speak up for you. I promise to do all 3!
I’ve been secretary and chairperson for my high school student council, and I’ve managed student operations at a volunteer clinic for many years, where making sure everyone’s concerns were vocalised and responded to was crucial. I’d bring that same organisation and communication to this role.
My promises:
- Make your concerns heard by running frequent anonymous feedback forms and giving prompt, transparent rundowns of responses, even if the answer is “not yet.”
- Fairly summarise and communicate all feedback effectively during the student-staff liaison meeting.
- Set up more peer learning avenues with fellow first years and older students to work through complex problems and topics.
- If deadlines clash or lab guidance is unclear, I’ll flag it with the right teaching/administrative staff, and push for clarity.
- Tap into my inner Gen Z and always be contactable.
I’d love to create a positive learning environment where we help each other through our confusions and mistakes without creating stress and get the best out of the course.
Vote for me as your Year 1 academic representative!
