William Zhao
No Biochemist Left Behind
Starting university is exciting, and studying the best course at Imperial, Biochemistry, is clearly the smartest choice of our life. This is a completely unbiased and scientifically proven opinion, of course. But even the best course can sometimes feel confusing, especially when dealing with the obnoxious freshers flu. I am standing for Year One Academic Representative to help everyone navigate this new environment, make sure our concerns are heard and acted upon, and ensure that nobody in our massive Biochemistry family is left behind.
If elected, I will focus on:
- Clearer practical guidance: I will collect specific feedback about confusing instructions and raise recurring problems with staff, asking for clearer explanations, better-organised guidance and clarification before deadlines.
-
Accessible communication: I will create short, anonymous surveys to regularly identify the problems students are experiencing, gather suggestions and ensure that everyone, including those who may not feel comfortable speaking publicly, has an opportunity to be heard.
-
Better access to learning resources: I will advocate for consistent and timely access to lecture recordings, slides and other materials that allow us to review classes effectively.
-
Visible follow-up: I will keep the cohort informed about what has been raised, how staff have responded and what progress has been made.
I want to represent the whole year fairly. I will listen carefully, communicate honestly and work constructively with both students and staff to make our first year more manageable, inclusive and rewarding.
