Elliot Baxter

Hello everyone, I’m Elliot and I would love to be your academic rep for the incoming year. This is a role which necessitates traits which I have developed greatly throughout my time here, as I have held organisational roles within several committees, including being Secretary for Light Opera and being in charge of the running of mocks and teaching for over 50 people. I am timely and efficient in the tasks I undertake and ensure that I see everything through.

I have several ideas of what I think could be improved within our years academics based on my own experience and talking to people in our year. I would look at and question the way our path week lectures function, and whether other students in our year would prefer other formats of learning rather than straight lectures. I would also look at how long each lecturer is given for their topic and whether this corresponds to the teaching complexity. Furthermore, I would explore the consistency of teaching between placements.

Most importantly, I would prioritise the ideas and concerns of the whole year over my own, listening to what is coming up time and time again in group chats and discussions. I would work with the other reps to push for real, meaningful change and consistently follow up with faculty to ensure that these things are actually happening. I would communicate agreements made with faculty so that everyone can see the progress of change.
