Florence Babatope
I'm Florence, a first-year Mathematics with Statistics for Finance student, and I'm running to be the Year One Maths Academic Representative.
Starting university comes with a lot to adjust to, especially on a demanding course like Mathematics. I want to make sure students feel that their concerns, suggestions and experiences are actually heard and communicated clearly to the department. I have experience representing other people’s views such as my role as a Young Ambassador, where I communicate with organisations and politicians on behalf of young people to implement and improve policies surrounding mental health and wellbeing. I was also co-leader of my school’s Maths Society, and a member of the diversity, equity & inclusion committee.
If elected, I would focus on three things:
- Making feedback easy to give by regularly collecting views from students, both informally and through short anonymous forms, so that quieter voices are heard as well as the most vocal ones.
- Communicating clearly with the department about issues affecting our year, whether that concerns workload, pacing, assessments, tutorials, lecture resources or anything else students consistently raise.
- Closing the feedback loop by keeping everyone updated on what has been raised, what responses we receive and what changes are being considered
I want to be a representative who is approachable, responsive and willing to raise issues constructively, while making sure our year stays informed throughout.
I'd really appreciate your vote.
