Mathematics (UG): Year One Academic Representative

Hi everyone, I'm Ashwin, and I'm running to be your next academic representative for the Department of Mathematics. The Imperial Mathematics department is world-class (QS2 :)), but my goal is to make the student experience just as exceptional as the education.

As a part-time tutor in GCSE and A-level Mathematics, as well as TMUA, working closely with different students, all with a variety of different strengths and learning styles, has taught me how to actively identify and understand student needs in order to best communicate and work with them. Similarly, I strongly believe that as your Academic Representative, I would be able to listen to a diverse cohort, understand any potential concerns or challenges, and translate your feedback into clear and actionable solutions by raising it to the departmental level.

Furthermore, as the former Co-President of my sixth form's Economics and Finance Society, as well as a former active and regular presenter at the Mathematics Society in my sixth form, I have developed confidence and the public-speaking experience to vocally describe and express collective student interests in front of senior faculty.

I hope to primarily focus on the following 3 areas:

  • Strong student voice: I will work to see that your voices inform decisions.
  • Academic + Well-being support: I will work to make sure everyone receives the academic support they need, through collaboration and resources, and communication with staff. I will work closely with the Well-being representative to ensure that student well-being is prioritised.
