Hello everyone!
My name is Sophia, and I’m running to be this year’s Academic Representative for Bioengineering.
I think I'm suited for this role because getting to know everyone is really important to me; if you want to come up to me and yappy yappy yap about anything, I will always be open to listening and being friends. I’ll take the time to listen to your concerns and make sure your feedback reaches the department. I've been told that I am super good at arguing, so I will try my best to fight for positive change throughout the year. As Head Girl at my previous school, I learned how to bridge the gap between students and staff and find solutions that work for both sides.
Some things I was thinking of improving are:
- Lectures that work for everyone - We all came to Imperial with different backgrounds, so lectures can assume knowledge some of us haven’t covered yet. I’ll push for better notes or short recap resources alongside lecture slides and recordings, so everyone can follow along when revising.
- More chances to socialise (with free pizza!)- Some departments put on pizza events for their students, and I think Bioengineering students deserve the same. Making friends in your course is so important for having a support nextwork that can help us when we get stuck. I’ll push for lunchtime department socials where we can relax and meet people across year groups.
Let's make bioengineering the BEST department at Imperial together!
Thank you!
