Asad Tariq

STEM Muslims Society: Vice President of Careers

As-salaamu 'alaykum,

My name is Asad, and I am standing to be your next Vice President of Careers at STEM Muslims.

Serving as Outreach Officer this year has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at Imperial. I organised three consecutive STEM Days for around 90 Year 12 students, helped set up our UCAS Mentoring Scheme which grew to over 200 participants, hosted a webinar series for sixth formers, and am currently part of the Haqqathon team — all of which has deepened my understanding of what our members need from a Careers stream.

What this year has taught me is that impact requires not just good intentions, but focus, structure, and genuine care for the community you serve. That's what I hope to bring to this role, inshallah.

My priorities as VP of Careers would be:

  • Expand employer partnerships — building on the Careers Fair to reach a wider range of industries, particularly sectors where Muslim and underrepresented professionals are less visible
  • Formalise a mentorship programme — a structured network connecting members with professionals and alumni for guidance on internships, grad schemes, and career planning
  • Keep our deen central — growing professionally in a way that reflects our values: with integrity, community, and the reminder that our rizq is from Allah

STEMM gave me so much this year. I want to give back by making Careers something our members genuinely rely on.

Jazaakum Allahu khayran,
Asad
