Aliyah Fadahunsi
STEM Muslims Society: Executive
As-salaamu 'alaykum,
My name is Aliyah, and I am standing to be your next Executive of STEM Muslims Society.
STEMM has been a significant part of my university experience - it has strengthened my connection to my deen, provided valuable opportunities, and introduced me to lasting friendships. Having served on the general committee this past year, I have developed a broad understanding of how the society functions across its different areas, and I feel well-placed to take on a leadership role.
My priorities as Executive would be:
- Increasing sisters' engagement and turnout - there is real potential to grow the sisters' side of STEMM, and I want to make that a focused effort. This means creating dedicated events and networks that reflect the experiences of Muslim women in STEM and consistently working to bring more sisters into the community.
- Strengthening student development with deen at its core - I would like to expand our soft skills provision through workshops and initiatives that develop members professionally and personally, whilst grounded in our Islamic values
- Improving visibility and communication - ensuring that members are consistently informed, that STEMM has a strong presence on campus, and that our events and opportunities are reaching the people they should be. A well-run society deserves to be well-known.
Having seen what STEMM can offer its members, I want to ensure that more people experience that - and that the society continues to grow in a direction that reflects our values.
Jazaakum Allahu khayran, Aliyah
