BioMedical: Academic Events & Opportunities Officer

Hi I’m Han, a first-year BMB student! This year I've seen how much students value clearer information about opportunities and career support that feels relevant to BMB as the Year 1 Academic Rep. If elected Academic & Opportunities Officer, these are the main things I’d add:

1. Alumni career panels each term 🧑‍🎓

  • Termly events with recent BMB alumni talking about PhDs, industry, and careers outside research, with enough space for people to ask questions.

2. A live internship and placement tracker 📌

  • A shared document with BMB-relevant summer programmes, lab placements, insight days, and deadlines, updated regularly so opportunities are easier to find.

3. CV and cover letter workshops 📄

  • Practical sessions run with e.g. older students who have secured placements or internships themselves, with the chance to get individual feedback where possible.

4. Coding and data skills events 💻

  • I’d collaborate with other courses or only BMB to run beginner-friendly events on coding, data analysis, AI in healthcare, and bioinformatics, which are useful skills for research, biotech, finance, consulting, and beyond.

Being Academic Rep has shown me how important it is to genuinely listen to feedback and what's missing from BMB academic events/opportunities and turn it into practical ideas. Vote Han for Academic & Opportunities Officer 🌺
