Sivani Vemparala
In a field that is traditionally male-dominated, it is important for women to feel equally supported, confident, and encouraged to succeed. As your Women in Mechanical Engineering Representative, I want to help bridge this often unseen gap by creating a stronger and more inclusive community where women can grow academically, professionally, and personally.
One of my main priorities is increasing opportunities for women within the department. I intend to organize and promote technical workshops, competitions, and networking events that will help students navigate coursework-related challenges while also providing easier access to professional development opportunities.
I also want to strengthen the sense of community among women in the department by organizing mentorship opportunities, social events, and collaborative spaces. These initiatives will serve as a reminder that feeling overwhelmed in a hyper-competitive and demanding field such as Mechanical Engineering is completely natural and often stems from not knowing where to begin.
Representation is equally important, which is why I hope to highlight the achievements of women in engineering and encourage greater visibility through guest speakers, career events, and industry connections. Speaking with successful Imperial women alumni and professionals within the field can both inspire confidence and provide valuable insight into applying for internships and placement opportunities.
By voting for me, you are supporting a more inclusive, supportive, and opportunity-driven environment for women in Mechanical Engineering!
