The first time I set foot on the Imperial campus was at the 2023 annual PotMed conference, where I had the opportunity to take part in a walkthrough of the rigorous application process for medicine and gain insight into life as an Imperial medic. That day inspired me, and many others who attended, not only to apply for medicine but also to consider Imperial as a place to study.
If given the opportunity to contribute to PotMed, I would aim to expand its reach and impact in several ways. Firstly, I would introduce a greater variety of workshops and events. This could include more frequent conferences throughout the year, particularly in the spring, to provide applicants with deeper insights into studying medicine and to encourage more students to apply.
Secondly, I would help establish a series of UCAT workshops. The MMI intensives have already proven highly effective and beneficial to many students, including myself. Offering similar preparation sessions for the UCAT over the summer would be valuable, as Imperial medics, particularly first year students, can share recent experience, strategies, and advice.
Additionally, I would ensure that all events actively target underrepresented schools. By increasing outreach and marketing efforts to disadvantaged communities, PotMed can continue to make its resources more accessible.
Finally, I would aim to increase charity work. “You shall never attain the righteousness until you spend in charity from that which you love; and whatever you spend, Allah surely knows it.” Surah Ali Imran 3:92. Donating profits to charities.
