Asya Aboukora
Having previously served as a Year 1 Fresher Representative for Muslim Medics, I understand the dedication, teamwork, and organisation required to deliver the high-quality events and initiatives that make MM such a valuable society. Having massively benefited from MM’s academic support throughout medical school, I would be honoured to give back as Year 3 & 4 Coordinator.
In Islam, seeking knowledge is a duty. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” (Sunan Ibn Mājah). This principle has shaped my approach to medical school and my commitment to supporting those around me in their academic development.
Third and fourth year are pivotal stages, with students balancing increasing clinical responsibilities alongside career planning, research skills, and BSc commitments. My aim would be to build on MM’s existing support and introduce initiatives that make these years more manageable, engaging, and rewarding.
I would propose an expanded BSc Buddy Scheme, pairing Year 4 students with Year 5 students who have completed the same pathway. This would provide tailored guidance on assessments, research opportunities, and navigating the year, while strengthening inter-cohort connections.
I would also enhance clinical skills support by offering additional practice opportunities closer to OSCE season, including informal drop-in sessions for history-taking and examination practice, with targeted feedback in a relaxed environment.
I am hardworking, creative, and proactive, and I enjoy turning ideas into practical initiatives. If elected, I would ensure MM remains student-centred, accessible, and impactful, supporting students through these crucial years of medical school.
