Acute Care Specialities: Intensive Care Lead
I'm Amy, a fourth-year medic who recently completed a BSc in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. Over the past year, I’ve developed a strong interest in intensive care and gained a deeper understanding of the speciality.
Alongside this, I have extensive experience organising and running events through my roles as a union officer, society founder, and committee member. I've also helped deliver critical care training courses for intensive care consultants, giving me valuable experience in coordinating educational events and simulation sessions.
If elected, I aim to:
- Organise teaching sessions on a range of areas of intensive care, such as burns, ECMO, and mechanical ventilation.
- Deliver teaching that links intensive care with related specialities, helping students understand how it integrates with the wider acute care pathway.
- Arrange hands-on workshops to give students exposure to practical skills and relevant procedures such as bronchoscopy, central line insertion, and airway management.
- Provide opportunities to learn more about careers in intensive care through networking and collaboration with clinicians and trainees.
As Intensive Care Lead, I hope to give you the opportunity to explore the field of intensive care and develop knowledge and practical skills in the area.
