Civil Engineering: Alumni and Mums&Dads

My name is Jason. I am currently 2nd year MEng Civil Engineering student, nominating for CivSoc: Alumini and Mums&Dads. My goal on pursuing this role is to increase connectivity between civil engineering industrial partners, alumni, and the College. This encourages students to increase networking with different companies as part of the summer internship programme (Y2 & Y3) and graduate jobs (Y4) through CivSoc alumni panel events and job fairs. For Mums&Dads programme, I would like to improve the connections between 'parents' (senior) and 'children' (Y1 fresher students). With the 'parents' sharing the experiences, this allow space for fresher students to adapt on the university environment in terms of study, socials, and mental health. I will use the experiences from Imperial Engineering Without Borders (EWB) events (e.g. Imperial+ Launch Organisation Workshop, Oxford & UCL social event) to engage with staff and students around civil engineering departments, as well as the CivSoc committees. I am looking forward collaborating with CivSoc committees and representing CivSoc.

If I am elected, I aim to:

  1. Provide free lunch/snacks on networking events
  2. Increase the number of students getting summer internships and graduate jobs
  3. Create civil engineering-related workshops including practical works by collaborating with staffs/professors/industry partners
  4. Create a chance to meet with civil engineering alumni on CivSoc panel events
  5. Create job fairs from small-medium to large companies
  6. Provide guidance for 1st year students through Mums&Dads events
