Economics: Treasurer

Hi everyone, I’m Ruhan, an Economics, Finance and Data Science student, and I’m running to be your next EconSoc Treasurer.

I’m standing because I want to be more involved in EconSoc and help support the events that make economics feel useful beyond lectures. Whether it’s careers events, speaker sessions, policy discussions, competitions or socials, I want the society's funding to be used in a way that genuinely improves the experience for members.

I’d bring experience that directly fits the Treasurer role. In Year 13, I led my school’s Digital Society during a school-wide transition, working with a committee and supporting over 1,000 students and staff towards a new digital transformation system. This taught me how much clear organisation matters behind the scenes, especially when lots of people rely on a process running smoothly. I’m also currently helping secure sponsorships for one of the largest inter-university South Asian dance competitions, which has shown me how to approach partners professionally and communicate the value of a student-led event.

As Treasurer, I’d focus on 3 things:

1) Make EconSoc more financially ambitious and purposeful with its funding.

2) Work to build a stronger sponsorship pipeline by approaching relevant firms earlier, especially across finance, consulting, policy, data and business.

3) I’d also push for funding decisions to be guided by member value, so money goes towards events that people actually benefit from.

My aim is simple: stronger sponsorship, smarter funding, and a reliable financial foundation that allows EconSoc to do more.
