Biochemistry: Academic Events Officer

Hi! I’m Rhea! I understand that biochem is a super stressful course, and especially for first years it can be a confusing maze to navigate. However, I also know that biochemistry is a very collaborative course where we aren’t afraid to help each other out – we are in this together! That’s why I would love to help.

I would like to introduce more academic based events that focus on introducing workshops such as basic lab skills or coding and bioniformatics. This would help students transition into university life and our biochemistry degree smoother!

I also recognize that sometimes our lab instructions aren’t as comprehensible, or that deadlines are really tight– all of which continue to add stress to our lives. I will advocate for better time management and more solid communication between the professors, convenors and the students to allow for a more relaxing year! Additionally, I would love to focus on imporving these skills via more biochemsoc lectures, help sessions, and maybe even Q+As.

I would also absolutely love to hear your feedback and be the spokesperson for our course. I truly believe that our biochem cohort is special in a way that we can agree is rare: we don’t want to be competitive with each other in a university where everything feels ride or die. I hope to help in keeping it this way:) Vote for Rhea!
