Music (ICSM): Choir Director

Hello Music!

This year I have had the pleasure of singing as tenor in the choir and I have loved every moment of it. I have been singing in choirs since I was in year 7 and it has always, in my view, been the most accessible type of music performance for people who haven't had music be a part of their life. It is this I want to encourage in the coming year as conductor of the ICSM choir.

To achieve this I wish to have a wide range of repetoire from video game scores to classical music to church repetoire. I want to encourage a knowledge of the music being sung so everyone can have their own connection to it rather than it only being the conductor. I also want to host the same session we had this year on how to read sheet music but within first term, early inthe year so newcommers do not feel overwhelmed and leave before getting the chance to truly enjoy choir.

Finally, I feel choir sometimes suffers from a lack of connection within members. Jazz Band and Orchestra both often have post rehearsal socials at spoons, not where drinking is the focus but an optional addition, the focus being more of an opportunity to meet new people and make new friends in the context of music, and I wish to encourage this.
