Hi everyone! I'm Michael, a first-year studying Mechanical Engineering, and I am running to be your Men's Second Team Captain next year.
This year, I've been to more than 90% of training sessions, and have travelled all around the country for matches. Along with conversations with the current captains, these experiences have given me a grasp on how the team functions and what the team needs.
One of the largest issues I encountered as a first-year was communication. From personal experience, the Freshers Fair and the team trials left me a bit confused. I realise that the team has significant time and budget constraints, so I will try my best to promote our team to potential new members while keeping these constraints in mind.
Also, we often could not field the best team possible due to scheduling issues. In a bid to solve this, I will ask for the team's availability earlier in advance, and then make a spreadsheet to keep track of who is available, all while ensuring that everyone plays a fair amount throughout the year.
Next year, the main goal will be to achieve promotion back to Tier 1 of BUCS. I firmly believe that our team is more than good enough to compete in Tier 1 in the coming years. Therefore, as captain, I will make sure that everything in my power is done to enable us to play at our best. Subsequently, promotion will follow.
