Infectious Diseases Society: Research Officer

Hello everyone! I am Benjamin Loke, a first year Chemistry undergraduate. What drove me to run as the research officer stemmed from my past research experience in antimicrobial research where I researched on the use of bacteriophages as an alternative in treating Mycobacteria.

My past experiences in infectious diseases research and coming from a country where infectious diseases like the Dengue virus are endemic made me realise how deadly they can be and the urgency needed in progressing research in this field.

As the current research officer in IDEsoc, I was responsible for the planning for the IDEsoc x SfGH journal clubs where we would organise speakers to come down and review research papers, sparking greater interest in the field of infectious diseases research and training research skills. If elected again, I hope to push for even more events to that cover the diverse range in infectious diseases research.
