During the first year, involvement in the Imperial College AI Society provided substantial insight into the organisation of events, the management of venues, and the detailed preparation required for hackathons. Despite not holding a formal committee position during the initial stage, consistent participation enabled a clear understanding of the society’s internal operations and expectations. Active contribution to events, often exceeding the engagement of certain principal roles, strengthened familiarity with the society’s workflow and highlighted the importance of reliable administrative support within a rapidly developing student organisation.
Engagement in hackathons facilitated valuable networking with peers, mentors, and industry participants, offering exposure to emerging AI concepts and the broader trajectory of the field. These experiences deepened an appreciation for the academic and practical dimensions of artificial intelligence, reinforcing a strong interest in exploring its future directions.
