Zaara Mir
Hi everyone, I’m Zaara and I’m running for Events Officer because I want to organise events that are genuinely engaging, well-run, and actually useful for students interested in transplant and vascular surgery.
Alongside medical school, I’m currently the Social Secretary for Imperial Medics Women’s Football and also help as Publicity Officer for the team. Through these roles, I’ve gained real experience organising events, promoting them effectively, and making sure people actually turn up and enjoy themselves. Whether it’s planning socials, coordinating with venues, or managing communication and promotion, I’ve learned how much detail and organisation goes into making something successful.
Being in these roles has also taught me how to balance creativity with logistics, making events fun and engaging, but also structured and smooth on the day.
If elected, I’d love to organise:
- Practical workshops like suturing and vascular skills sessions
- Relaxed networking evenings where students can comfortably speak to surgeons and trainees
- Talks that clearly explain the training pathway and what the specialty is really like
- Collaborative events with other societies to widen opportunities and increase attendance
Transplant and vascular surgery can sometimes feel like a distant or intense specialty, and I want our events to make it feel more accessible and less intimidating. Whether someone is fully set on surgery or just curious, they should feel welcome.
I’m organised, proactive, and enthusiastic, and I’d love the opportunity to put those skills into creating a strong and exciting events calendar for the society.
