Transplant and Vascular Society: Academic Officers

Hello everyone, I’m Akshara, and I am running to be your Transplant and Vascular academic officer.

Through my roles as a Phase 1a MedEd Lecturer and Junior Anatomy Series Lecturer, I have seen firsthand how a supportive academic environment shapes the student experience, and I am eager to contribute more directly to its development.

Having served on committees and subcommittees across nine societies this year, alongside coordinating national teaching programmes reaching over 500 sixth-form students, I have developed the organisational and leadership skills required to support the smooth delivery of educational initiatives. I am confident in managing administrative responsibilities and maintaining clear communication to ensure projects are delivered effectively and sustainably.

My Aims:

  • Launch an Education & Research Series: I aim to introduce a speaker series featuring clinicians and researchers who can share insights into their clinical practice, research pathways, and practical advice on getting involved in research as a medical student. This would also expand subcommittee roles and create more opportunities for active member involvement.
  • Increase Inter-Society and Inter-University Collaboration: Work with other Imperial and external university societies to co-develop teaching events tailored to different year groups, ensuring content is relevant, targeted, and accessible.
  • Work alongside conference chairs: Ensure the conference incorporates opportunities and learning experiences for all Y1-6 students.
  • Academic resources: Increase the society’s academic resources, ensuring they are well signposted.

Vote for me, and I will work to expand the educational and research impact of transplant and vascular surgery, accessibility, and opportunities for student involvement.
