Vanessa Lim

My name is Vanessa and I am so excited to be running for Chair of WIA. Our society, though humble in size, is pivotal in encouraging women and non-binary members of the Aeronautics community at Imperial to thrive and add valuable contribution to the field on a larger scale. My mission as candidate for Chair is not only to sustain what exists here, but also to make strides for WIA to be a stronger vessel for professional and social development.

I want to ensure that every member feels they have a seat at the table and the confidence to assert themselves. I aim to:

• Collaborate with Com-Sec to establish direct pipelines with aerospace leaders for exclusive networking sessions and technical talks specifically for our members.

• Formalize a mentorship scheme that pairs first-years with female and or non-binary seniors and postgraduates to navigate the specific challenges of the Imperial Aero degree.

• Advocate for our community within the department to ensure women and non-binary voices are heard in curriculum discussions and further, while hosting social events that make our "humble" society feel like a tight-knit family.

I am organized, approachable, and deeply committed to the success of our peers. And at heart, I'm very chalant and put compassion front-and-centre. I tutor 25 sweet kids as a full-time job! More than leading the committee; I will listen to what you need from this society to make your time at Imperial more impactful.
