Arzeen Khan
Neuro: Neurosurgery Lead
Hello everyone, I’m Arzeen Khan. Having completed a six-week neurosurgical attachment where I was granted the opportunity to scrub into several neurosurgical procedures, I have developed a strong passion for neurosurgery. As part of subcommittee, serving as Speaker Co-ordinator, I have played a key role in organising our National Neuro Teaching Series, securing paediatric neurosurgeons to deliver talks followed by a Q&A panel, giving students valuable insight into the sub-specialty and opportunities to build contacts within the field.
When elected, I will:
- Organise a dedicated Neurosurgery Day at the start of the academic year, featuring talks from neurosurgeons across different subspecialities, a breakdown of the competitive training pathway, followed by a Q&A panel and structured networking session. This would allow students, especially freshers to gain early exposure and establish meaningful connections within the field.
- Establish a mentorship programme, linking aspiring neurosurgeons with registrars in training. This would provide tailored guidance on navigating the highly competitive training pathway, long-term career advice, and potential research opportunities.
- Inspired by an immersive VRIMS session at the NANSIG Conference, I plan to introduce a Virtual Reality workshop at next year’s Neuro Conference, allowing delegates to virtually scrub into surgery and interact with the operating theatre.
- Transform our national speaker series into an international initiative, drawing on the contacts I developed during my neurosurgical attachment to showcase global practice, research innovation, and varied training experiences.
To make this vision a reality, you need to vote Arzeen Khan for Neurosurgery Lead.
