Haematology Society: Vice President

Hello everyone, I’m Akshara, and I’m running to be your Vice-President of Haematology.

Being part of the subcommittee for this year’s flagship conference, alongside serving on committees and subcommittees across nine societies, has given me strong experience in leadership, organisation, and collaboration. Through these roles, I have developed the communication, teamwork, and strategic planning skills needed to help Haematology Society grow and thrive.

My Aims

  • Increase Publicity and Engagement: I want to improve early outreach and visibility for our flagship conference and society events. By starting publicity earlier, streamlining communication, and appointing dedicated publicity leads within the subcommittee, we can ensure wider visibility and stronger turnout. Introducing a Year 1 representative will also help build engagement from the very beginning, encouraging participation within each year group.
  • Create Distinct Subcommittee Roles: Clearly defined roles will improve accountability, efficiency, and teamwork. This will ensure every member knows their responsibilities and can contribute meaningfully to the society’s success.
  • Introduce a Fresher Representative: With the introduction of POM, first-year students may benefit from clearer access to haematology-focused teaching and opportunities. A Fresher Representative would help bridge this gap, improving accessibility and early engagement.
  • Collaborate with Other Medical Schools: I aim to strengthen partnerships with other medical schools across London. By connecting with more societies, we can expand our network, increase participation, and potentially establish an inter-university teaching series.

I look forward to making Haematology Society more inclusive, organised, and collaborative. Thank you for your support.
