Alice Choubry
Hi everyone!
Ceilidh has been one of the highlights of my time at university: welcoming, joyful, slightly chaotic in the best way and a space where people from very different backgrounds come together. Having been on committee as your secretary this year, I’ve seen the work goes on behind the scenes and the potential the society has to grow even further. I’m running for President because I care deeply about the society, its members, its future and I want to help make Ceilidh as inclusive, well‑run and fun as it can be.
As a current committee member, I already understand how the society operates: organising events, communicating with members, coordinating with other committee members and dealing with the inevitable last‑minute issues. Outside Ceilidh, I’m also an academic representative, which means I regularly gather feedback and turn it into constructive proposals.
I want Ceilidh to remain a space where complete beginners feel just as comfortable as experienced dancers (I started as a complete beginner in Y1!). This includes clear communication about what to expect at events, encouragement for first‑timers, and fostering an atmosphere where no one feels out of place. Ceilidh is special because of the people who make it what it is. If elected President, I would work hard to support both the committee and the wider membership, ensuring that Ceilidh continues to be a joyful, inclusive, and well‑run society for everyone involved.
My hobbies include: convincing people to come to ceilidh!
