Eito Ogawa
Hello, I am Eito (prounounced like pot-ato)!
I am the current Secretary of the society, and I am a second year Mechanical Engineering student. Fun fact: my favourite body part to make a prosthesis for is the foot. Yeah.
Having been in the society for 2 years now, it might sound hard to believe, but this society has grown significantly. We're still not yet at the levels of some long-established engineering society, but the progress this year was HUGE. We ran workshops, hosted industry talks and we're even participating in the Great Exhibition Road Festival in June.
Seeing where this society was and where we've progressed, I am clear on what the objective of next year should be: Working with real users.
What differentiates prosthesis design compared to other projects is the challenge of making something that is functional with real people. That means you need to critically consider ergonomics, weight, cost and aesthetics. But right now, that critical aspect is missing from many of our projects.
Therefore, if elected, I will focus on:
- Working closely with real prosthesis users - already started arranging things for the Ankle Team
- Handling the heavy administrative work (carrying on from my experience as secretary)
- Ensuring all the different teams in the society meet at least twice a term so that people actually interact in this society
- [Optional] The social media
As somebody who simply enjoys the society and wants it to be even better, I hope you vote for me.
