Beom Soo Choi
Hi everyone, I am Choi Beomsoo, running alongside Zachariah! The first conference I attended 2 years ago, Reconstructing the Stereotype, gave me an overview of plastic surgery; how diverse and fascinating reconstruction is. I was struck by a speech from a Gaza combat surgeon who put his life at risk to aid trauma victims who had sustained debilitating injuries. The gratifying restoration of form and function via free flap tissue transfer, and watching first hand the vast improvement in the patients’ quality of life is what made microsurgery stand out of all the subspecialties in that conference. Suturing on realistic models as a first year medical student made me realise how deeply enjoyable the hands-on aspect of microsurgery is. I’ve gone on to join the subcommittee of iPRAS, and made it my goal to give other members of the society a similar experience. In this role, I’ve been involved in the planning of over 4 conferences, gaining familiarity with the process of planning and executing a conference. Some ideas I would like to propose in the next conference: Multi-step simulation of a microsurgical free flap tissue transfer, prizes for workshops and interactive menti quizzes. Organising a conference needs proper delegating of roles and good time management. As a military operations officer back in Singapore, I planned big scale operations under high stress environments - preparing me well for the smooth running of a conference. I pledge to give my best in delivering that experience to further your interests in plastic surgery.
