Saleha Omar
Hi my name is Saleha, I’m a second year medical student and would love to be your Education Officer for Gastroenterology and Hepatology this year. I am keen to help make gastroenterology a more approachabletopic within medical school especially for the earlier years of ICSM as often gastro is one of the topics that people repeatedly struggle to get to grips with.
While I haven’t been incredibly involved in Gastroenterology and Hepatology Society this year, I see this as an opportunity to bring a fresh perspective and be proactive in building something valuable from the ground up. Firstly, I would also love to introduce a peer mentor scheme within the society, pairing students with those further along in their ICSM journey to make gastro feel less intimidating and more collaborative. Being part of an ICSM netball team since first year has reinforced the importance of teamwork, inter- year group friendships and creating a supportive environment
I also hope to do so through organising high-quality tutorials, reaching out to more career specialists to speak about different pathways within this field, and ensure all sessions are well-structured and relevant to the curriculum. I am confident fin my ability to deliver this given my experience organising large-scale events including a school leavers’ dinner involving 3 other schools which developed my organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to coordinate effectively with different stakeholders.
Overall, my aim would be to make gastroenterology feel clear, engaging and genuinely exciting to learn.
