Saim Khan
Hi everyone! This is Saim, and I'm standing to be your tournaments director for next year. Given my experience having convened two competitions this year (which both ran very smoothly, without major delays or issues with judges etc.), I am already familiar with the intricacies of arranging a successful competition.
Given how long I spend on all things debating anyway, I was more than happy and able to put the grunt work in for convening, from booking rooms at 12am the moment they were available, the creation of various sign up forms, emailing schools to chase up missing payments, tracking internal volunteer registration and more!
I have also made numerous friends on the circuit, which means that I'm able to get people to IA and fill our judge pool when the situation otherwise looks dire (for example, out of the 4 IAs who came for Imperial Schools, 3 of them I got). These also include more reppy debaters / judges who I can also ask to arrange to CA competitions.
One thing I specifically hope to accomplish is to bring back the Imperial Science Open which used to be a regularly occurring tournament before COVID - I dearly believe that we need more STEM motions on the circuit!
