Infectious Diseases Society: Secretary

Hello! I am Benjamin Loke, a first year Chemistry undergraduate. Coming from a country where infectious diseases like the Dengue virus are endemic, I have seen the effects infectious diseases have on society and believe that they are a threat which requires more attention. What really got me interested in infectious diseases was the research done in treating them, especially in the use of self-amplyifying RNA in anti-viral therapeutics.

Beyond my interest in infectious diseases, I believe my experiences in past leadership experiences (eg Officer in the Singapore armed forces) have developed my planning and organisational abilities. As the previous research officer, I have had experience planning for events in the committe, primarily the bi-monthly journal clubs and am familiar with how IDEsoc operates.

If elected, I will ensure that each committee member's workload is evenly distributed and that all the administrative requirements in IDEsoc such as the organising of meetings or doing up meeting minutes will be executed timely and effectively.

Something I hope to do as secretary is to push for more events and collaborations with other societies such as with students for global health or the teddy bear hospital. Since we are a small society, I believe we can do more as a society and collaborations with such societies could allow for us to implement more events raising awareness on infectious diseases and research and careers in this area.

Thank you for reading this. I hope that you would vote for me to be your next secretary!
