Alicia Obika
Hi everyone! I'm Alicia and running for Chair. I study Biological Sciences BSc, diving into pathogens and disease and putting me in connection with many colleagues and lecturers either interested or prominent in the field. I joined subcommittee as Public Health Officer and have had such a positive experience interacting with the committee members I’ve met. I want to deliver for all the current and future members who are passionate about the society, and bring it above and beyond the high standard it’s already at.
I care about making a serious impact and this is the primary reason I have decided to go for Chair. I have a vision to not only expand the public health campaigns and journal clubs, but also organise an event with a wide and impactful reach, such as a Women's Health conference or a networking event focused on uplifting others in the fields of health, infectious disease and epidemiology. This includes maintaining the close relationship cultivated with SfGH society this year, and increasing publicity within Medicine, BMB, biosciences and all.
Being Events Officer for ACS 25/26 has taught me extreme discipline, management, budgeting and the criteria for an events’ success, as well as Union’s logistics. This year we have already organised or collaborated on over 30 different events. This includes socials, conferences, competitions, workshops and outreach events. My simultaneous role as Assistant Musical Director in Gospel Choir has allowed me to deepen my capability to organise people, encourage them and bring out their best performance.
