Mechanical Engineering: Alumni and Industrial Liaison

Hello everybody! I am Eito, and I am a second-year student who loves alumni and industries, so I can’t think of any other role that I would be perfect for.

Mechanical engineering is an amazing course because it covers a broad range of engineering topics, opening doors to many industries like automotives, energy, construction or even finance. But with so many possible career paths, how do you decide on a career that you will be excited and satisfied with?

The best way is probably to speak to people in various industries and gain exposure through internships or work shadowing experiences. Reaching out can be quite initimidating, but when these people are alumni, the same people who’ve done the century-old Fairground Lab, it far more approachable and real. I think that is the core essence and importance of this role.

With this in in mind, if elected, I will:

  • Continue building upon the industrial connections from previous years
  • Host accessible and carefree alumni events
  • Work with the department to ensure the inspirational lectures stay inspirational
  • [Optional] Send biweekly/monthly emails with internships, opportunities and relevant industry news.
  • [Optional] Share extracurricular student activities that boost career skills. For example, highlighting engineering societies (like rocketry or prosthetics) and share key info on things like UROP that many students want but don't know enough about.

Thank you for reading, and I hope that you vote. Even if you don’t vote for me, please connect with me on LinkedIn :)
