Sophia Lauren Mamon

Hi guys! I’m Sophia, a 2nd year biochemistry student, and I’m running to be book club’s social sec this year :)

You might remember me as the person who may or may not have traumatised you all during our Flowers for Algernon meeting (hint: search how to prevent symptoms of phenylketonuria) but for those who don’t know me, I’m basically a yapper and the biggest enabler when it comes to buying books regardless of your TBR length. I will passionately debate bookish opinions when prompted and some of my all time favourite books include Babel, Lessons in Chemistry and Iron Widow.

Whilst the monthly meetings, trivia nights and occasional book crawls are at the heart of book club, I'd love to introduce some new socials! My main proposition is to arrange seeing author appearances/talks – organisers like How To Academy sometimes do events at RGS, which is just a minute's walk from main campus. Last term I had the opportunity to see R.F. Kuang discuss Katabasis there and I just think it's always fun to see inside the minds of our favourite – and often quirky – authors. Other ideas I have include having a book-themed potluck or escape room, as well as annotated books swaps (these are such an experience if you've ever done this haha).

I’m super enthusiastic, organised to a tee and willing to commit to the responsibilities of being a book club committee member and more. I hope I’ll secure your vote!
