Paediatrics: Academic Officer

Hi, I'm Anika, a second year medical student and I would love to be the Paediatrics Academic Officer! If elected, I would like to cultivate a positive academic environment within the society. I am passionate about medical education and committed to creating a supportive space where members feel confident and inspired. As a POM tutor and member of both Play Team and the MWF subcommittee, I have developed strong leadership, organisational and communication skills. Through working with other members of committee and sponsors, I have strengthened my ability to balance responsibilities, support peers and contribute meaningfully to a team whilst working under strict deadlines — qualities I would bring to this position.

If elected, I will prioritise both excellence and wellbeing. I plan to introduce informal Q&A sessions to openly discuss academic concerns in a relaxed setting. I will organise engaging journal clubs, exam and volunteering preparation workshops, and publish a clear annual academic calendar so members can plan ahead. I will collaborate closely with the committee to deliver high-quality webinars, strengthen links with training institutions, and expand volunteering opportunities, including outreach to local schools. During the conference, I will work to ensure strong abstract support and introduce additional academic opportunities to encourage wider participation.

Above all, I will remain approachable, proactive and open to feedback. I want our academic programme to reflect the diverse goals and interests of every member, and increase inclusivity for all levels of interest within Paediatrics.
