Gastroenterology & Hepatology: Vice Chair

Hi everyone, I’m Subanu, a fourth-year medic, and I’m running to be Gastroenterology and Hepatology Vice Chair!

Over the past few years, I’ve had a lot of exposure to gastroenterology on placement, and I’ve developed a strong interest in the specialty, due to the wide range of conditions it encompasses and the inspiring role models I’ve encountered in the field.

This year I was fortunate enough to serve as Co-Chair of the ICOGS Conference 2026, where I helped lead a large subcommittee and organise a conference of this scale. Coordinating teams, managing logistics and planning the event strengthened my organisational, leadership and decision-making skills. Working closely with the core committee also gave me insight into the many roles that keep a society running successfully, from academic events and publicity to sponsorship and external partnerships.

As Vice Chair, I’d love to help grow and revitalise Gastro and Hep by supporting initiatives such as:

Imperial’s Gastroenterology & Hepatology Conference
A workshop series including laparoscopy and suturing
A student-led journal club discussing emerging research
Regular external speaker events to bring new perspectives to the society

I’d love the opportunity to help make Gastro and Hep an active, supportive, and inspiring society!
