Hi, I am Ananth Hari Narain, a 1st year Computing Student. Whilst I have greatly enjoyed the academic events this year, I feel that there is room for improvement. I have two main goals as Academic Events Coordinator:
1. Introduce a clear “Careers 101” early in the year, so students know from the beginning what opportunities exist - spring weeks, internships, hackathons, research, and valuable societies. Right now, these come a little too late in the year. Many of my friends and I applied to spring weeks too late, not because we were lazy or unorganised, but simply because we were unaware. I will ensure this doesn't happen for the next cohort.
2. Broaden the scope of talks to other fields. I want to expand our talks to showcase the full reach of Computer Science - from interdisciplinary applications to industry and research - while promoting relevant events across other departments to connect members with opportunities beyond the traditional tech bubble. Its wide reach is why Computer Science is the best subject.
Finally, why me? I have had extensive experience in leading societies, as the chair of the Maths and Computer Science societies in my school, where I organised talks and ran small events. I have done this before, and I will do it again.
DoCSoc is the best society in Imperial. Period. Vote for Ananth Hari Narain as your Academic Events Coordinator, and I will ensure that it continues to be the best academic society in Imperial.
