Sam Corbett
Hi, I'm Sam! I'm a Computing 2nd year, you may know me from DoCSoc events, as a first year labs UTA, or as an IC Hack 26 organiser.
The depth of knowledge and talent students at Imperial have is outstanding. We're surrounded by people who build impressive things, but don't always share that knowledge efficiently. The success of Rust 101 this year shows what works: focused sessions, run by students for students, on practical topics (and of course, pizza helps!).
As your Academic Events Coordinator, I'll focus on expanding what works and fixing what's missing:
- More 101s - I'll organise more 101 sessions, opening up topic submissions so that the program reflects what you actually want to learn. If there's anything that you think we're missing, let me know and I'll make sure it's covered!
- Lunchtime talks - Your attendance has shown that the lunchtime talks this year have been a huge success. I'll make sure to continue the great work, with the right speakers on cutting edge-subjects.
- Practical workshops - Interactive hands on sessions where you build something tangible using real tools and workflows. The aim is simple: you leave with something working, and skills you can actually use.
We also shouldn't operate in a bubble - groups like ICARL are already hosting high-quality technical talks. I'll actively build partnerships across Imperial so DoCSoc members never miss the best speakers on campus, whoever's hosting them.
Vote Sam for Academic Events Coordinator!
