Beom Soo Choi
Hi everyone, I am Choi Beomsoo, running alongside Saashi! The first conference I attended 2 years ago, Reconstructing the Stereotype, completely changed my outlook on plastic surgery. I previously thought plastic surgery had everything to do with cosmetics, but the conference gave me a drastically different impression. From the fixing of congenital deformities like cleft palate in paediatrics, to extremity reconstruction in microsurgery, the wide variety of procedures ranging from head to toe was really fascinating to me. Most of all, the vast improvement made in the patients’ quality of life, the hands-on skill and creativity is what made me realise how fulfilling plastics is as a specialty. I’ve gone on to join the subcommittee of iPRAS, and made it my goal to change the stereotypes of plastic surgery, and spread the message to my fellow medical students. In this role, I’ve been involved in the planning of over 4 conferences, gaining familiarity with the process of planning and executing a conference. Some ideas I would like to propose in the next conference: Adding head and neck reconstruction into the mix, mentimeter quizzes and workshop prizes. Organising a conference needs proper delegating of roles and good time management. As a military operations officer back in Singapore, I planned big scale operations under high stress environments - preparing me well for the smooth running of a conference. I pledge to give my best in delivering that experience to further your interests in plastic surgery.
