Matthew Kaung
Hi, my name is Matthew, and I am excited to run for AMSA Academic Officer
As a second-year medical student, I am passionate about medical education and academic content creation. My experience supporting peers and developing resources reflects my commitment and initiative, which I hope to bring to AMSA as Academic Officer to deliver accessible, collaborative, and student-focused academic initiatives.
If elected, I will work to deliver the following key improvements for AMSA:
Remember how you got into medical school — it wasn’t easy. The interviews, the uncertainty, the preparation. I aim to:
- Expand AMSA’s Mock MMI circuits for structured, realistic interview practice.
- Introduce mentorship opportunities connecting applicants with current students.
- Deliver focused UCAT workshops with practical strategies.
Starting medical school brings new pace, expectations, and a steep learning curve. I aim to:
- Create a peer mentorship network linking senior and junior students for guidance and support.
- Host an introductory MBBS talk outlining programme structure and assessments.
The six-year MBBS is challenging, so continuous support across all years is essential. I aim to:
- Maintain and streamline mock exams (CPA, OSCE, PACES).
- Offer year-specific workshops and tutorials for POM, BRS, anatomy, and clinical skills.
Why I'm a suitable candidate:
- Authored a 2,200+ question bank for Phase 1a, with Phase 1b in development — shows initiative and academic insight.
- Served on subcommittee for this year’s CPA mock — demonstrates leadership and organisation.
- Four years of tutoring experience and guest speaker at multiple medical school prep talks — highlights teaching and communication skills.
