Anthony Ng

Asian Medical Students Association: Academic Officer

Hi guys! I’m Anthony, and I’m excited to nominate myself as your Academic Rep for AMSA.

I’m passionate about creating a homely academic ecosystem where med students of all years and universities can help each other out. As Academic Rep, I want to foster a collaborative space with interactive tutoring, inspiring specialty talks, and accessible academic support, strengthening the sense of community within AMSA.

My Vision:

  • Send out surveys at the start of the year to understand what academic events members would find most helpful.
  • Introduce a “Specialty Speed Dating Spotlight,” where students rotate in small groups to speak with invited specialists in a personalised setting.
  • Work with the Social Sec to organise academic-themed inter-uni quiz nights that combine learning and socialising.
  • Continue running Mock MMIs for pre-med students, CPA and OSCE mock exams, and the Imperial teaching series while increasing attendance and engagement.
  • Ensure effective communication with the other Academic Rep and Publicity Officers to guarantee organised recruitment and smooth advertising.

Why I am suitable:

  • I participated in the subcommittee for AMSA events such as Mock MMI set-up for pre-med students; hence, I understand what is required to organise events efficiently.
  • I am dedicated to supporting those around me academically, whether in the year below, friends, or colleagues. If it’s notes or a topic they don’t understand, I’m there to help.
  • Volunteering with Soup Run, handing out food to the homeless, strengthened my leadership, communication, and organisational skills through working with people of all age groups.
