Surgical: Research Representative

Some of you might have seen that I’m also running for Treasurer. If you already have someone else in mind for that role, I’d still really love your support as Research Representative for the Imperial Surgical Society.

I’ve been part of SurgSoc since second year, first on subcommittee and later on the Trauma Conference team, and I’ve seen how much work goes into building opportunities that students can actually access. Research is a huge part of surgical training, but it often feels confusing, closed off, or hard to break into without the right connections.

I want to help make research feel more approachable and more integrated into the society, not something that only a few people know how to navigate. That means clearer signposting of opportunities, better communication, and a more open system where students know how to get involved and who to contact.

I care about making sure research within SurgSoc feels supportive, organised, and accessible, rather than intimidating or opaque. My aim is to help students engage with research in a way that feels achievable alongside medical school, not overwhelming on top of it.
